Prosperity breeds friends adversity tries them
Life often appears to be a riddle, a mystery. It is full of ups and downs. There are periods in life when a man is rich and happy and there are other periods when he is poor and unhappy. It is common knowledge of all the persons in the world that the number of friends of a wealthy man is very great. A poor man has few friends. Almost all people like to be friends with rich people. No man ever becomes the friend of the poor. The reason is not far to seek. A rich man attracts more friends who are not sincere and genuine friends. They are parasites and sycophants. They gather around the wealthy man to derive some material benefits for themselves. If by chance, the wealthy man becomes poor they desert him without qualms. But those who continue the friendship during a man's period of adversity are true friends.
