Spare the rod and spoil the child
The success of a man in his life depends much on how he has been brought up in his childhood. One Sanskrit verse composed by Chanakya says that a child up to five years of age should be brought up with tender care, love and affection. Thereafter, for the next ten years, he should be brought up with strict vigilance and discipline. The period of life between the age of five and the age of fifteen is the formative period. It is the most crucial period. If the child is brought up well during this period he succeeds in life. If he is brought up carelessly during this period he gets spoiled and fails in life. Hence, a child should be brought up strictly during this phase of his life. If he goes astray, wastes his time in bad company and does not study properly he ought to be punished severely. Fear of punishment will set him right.
