There is a rough and ready method to gauge the depth of water at a place. It can be known by close observation of the surface of the water. The surface of deep waters is generally calm and steady. The surface of shallow waters is generally disturbed and unsteady. Probably the relative pressure of water is the cause of this phenomenon. This instance applies to the human situation too. A rich man who possesses vast wealth is neither extravagant nor showy. A womán of great beauty is neither conceited nor ostentations. She is usually solemn, sober, and quiet. But a woman of average looks shows off as a great beauty. Similarly, a wise man with deep knowledge and wisdom is always calm and quiet whereas a little learned man always goes on jabbering to parade his learning. This is a subterfuge to cover up his ignorance and stupidity. This proves the fact that really worthy people from all walks of life can be recognized from their quietness and sobriety.
