WE LIVE IN DEEDS, NOT IN YEARS.
Utkalamani Gopabandhu, an illustrious son of Orissa, in one of his poems, had said that the worth of a man's life is not assessed in terms of the years, months and days he has lived. It is measured by the quality of his actions. A person who lives a long life of one hundred years without any good work for the benefit of the society dies unknown and unlamented. A man who lives only a few years with a record of service and sacrifice is remembered by all for ever. Sri Chaitanya, Vivekananda, Sankaracharya, Alexander and Napoleon had brief spans of life. But history bears their names in golden letters. A lily that lives for a day is appreciated in preference to an oak tree which lives for years. The fame and reputation of a man does not so much depend upon the length of his life as on his virtuous character and generous deeds.
